Le case prefabbricate sono edifici per molti versi analoghi alle costruzioni tradizionali.
L’alto isolamento termico permette di controllare naturalmente il clima dell’edificio con un minimo ricorso all’impiantistica in dotazione, a prescindere dal tipo di riscaldamento scelto (caldaie, pompe di calore, camini, stufe).
In ogni caso, vi sono aspetti poco noti che portano a percepire condizioni termiche sensibilmente superiori a quelle che possono essere avvertite in un edificio tradizionale.
Sappiamo che il calore si trasmette per convezione, conduzione ed irradiazione.
Perché, dunque, in una casa in legno si sta “bene”?
Al di là degli slogan di circostanza vi sono fattori fisici che migliorano il benessere percepito nelle case prefabbricate rispetto ad edifici meno isolato o in presenza di superfici con differente temperatura superficiale.
Prendiamo l’esempio di un fabbricato disperdente, realizzato con una struttura in cemento armato, con pilastri esterni non isolati (ponti termici) e tamponamento leggero intonacato. Non si tratta assolutamente di un eccezione, ma della regola degli edifici realizzati sino a pochi anni fa.
L’impianto di riscaldamento tipico di questi immobili resta la classica caldaia a radiatori.
Per mantenere una temperatura accettabile nei mesi invernali, questo impianto sarà costretto a lavorare in modo continuativo ed i radiatori saranno sempre caldi per compensare la costante perdita di calore dovuta alla bassa temperatura esterna.
I moti convettivi saranno di notevole entità e la temperatura dell’aria interna varierà da zona a zona, a seconda della distanza fisica dal calorifero stesso.
Il termostato si limita a fornire una media della temperatura, un dato che non tiene conto di tutte le modalità di trasmissione del calore e che non è sufficientemente correlato alla percezione reale che abbiamo del microclima dell’edificio.
E’ infatti possibile provare una sensazione di piacere o di assoluto disagio, a fronte di una identica misurazione strumentale di 19-20° C. Come accennato, il calore si trasmette anche per radiazione, ovvero attraverso un onda termica, di cui l’esempio più lampante è la radiazione solare.
La presenza del sole nelle giornate d’inverno procura un notevole calore percepito, anche in presenza di valori di temperatura dell’aria molto bassi.
Le superfici interne dell’edificio (pareti, soffitto, finestre e vetrate, pavimento) emettono analogamente onde di calore, come qualsiasi altro corpo che si trovi all’interno dell’edificio.
Nelle case non coibentate si tratta sempre di superfici fredde, la cui radiazione verrà distintamente percepita dal nostro corpo. Un pavimento in marmo posato contro terra, freddo e non isolato, emetterà un’onda termica a bassa temperatura che ci farà avvertire una sgradevole sensazione agli arti inferiori. Vetri poco isolati possono raggiungere valori di pochi gradi sopra lo zero (pensiamo ai finestrini dell’automobile, posizionati a pochi centimetri dal nostro corpo), emettendo un’onda fredda, così come le pareti esterne o la copertura degli edifici male isolati.
Nelle case prefabbricate le pareti sono in legno e, sempre, altamente coibentate. Se tocchiamo con la mano la superficie interna del muro, essa risulterà “calda”. La radiazione diffusa da tale elemento sarà pertanto emessa ad una temperatura di poco inferiore alla temperatura dell’aria. Il riscaldamento a pavimento massimizza questo meccanismo virtuoso, eliminando i moti convettivi dovuti ai radiatori (comunque minimi nelle case prefabbricate).
Le vetrate (meglio ancora se con vetri a triplo strato) emetteranno una temperatura assai superiore a quella prodotta da finestre non isolate, così come il tetto, efficacemente coibentato ed a struttura lignea (questo materiale è un pessimo conduttore di calore).
Se i vari apporti giungono al nostro corpo con differenze di temperatura minime, la sensazione di benessere sarà di conseguenza alta, innescando la sensazione di benessere.
Al contrario, in presenza di superfici radianti molto fredde o troppo calde (una stufa a legna ad alta temperatura in un edificio disperdente), il nostro sistema di termoregolazione interna andrà letteralmente “in tilt”.
Il comfort termico è pertanto uno degli aspetti più interessanti (e meno conosciuti) delle case prefabbricate.

Il termostato si limita a fornire una media della temperatura, un dato che non tiene conto di tutte le modalità di trasmissione del calore e che non è sufficientemente correlato alla percezione reale che abbiamo del microclima dell’edificio.
E’ infatti possibile provare una sensazione di piacere o di assoluto disagio, a fronte di una identica misurazione strumentale di 19-20° C. Come accennato, il calore si trasmette anche per radiazione, ovvero attraverso un onda termica, di cui l’esempio più lampante è la radiazione solare.
La presenza del sole nelle giornate d’inverno procura un notevole calore percepito, anche in presenza di valori di temperatura dell’aria molto bassi.
Le superfici interne dell’edificio (pareti, soffitto, finestre e vetrate, pavimento) emettono analogamente onde di calore, come qualsiasi altro corpo che si trovi all’interno dell’edificio.
Nelle case non coibentate si tratta sempre di superfici fredde, la cui radiazione verrà distintamente percepita dal nostro corpo. Un pavimento in marmo posato contro terra, freddo e non isolato, emetterà un’onda termica a bassa temperatura che ci farà avvertire una sgradevole sensazione agli arti inferiori. Vetri poco isolati possono raggiungere valori di pochi gradi sopra lo zero (pensiamo ai finestrini dell’automobile, posizionati a pochi centimetri dal nostro corpo), emettendo un’onda fredda, così come le pareti esterne o la copertura degli edifici male isolati.
Nelle case prefabbricate le pareti sono in legno e, sempre, altamente coibentate. Se tocchiamo con la mano la superficie interna del muro, essa risulterà “calda”. La radiazione diffusa da tale elemento sarà pertanto emessa ad una temperatura di poco inferiore alla temperatura dell’aria. Il riscaldamento a pavimento massimizza questo meccanismo virtuoso, eliminando i moti convettivi dovuti ai radiatori (comunque minimi nelle case prefabbricate).
Le vetrate (meglio ancora se con vetri a triplo strato) emetteranno una temperatura assai superiore a quella prodotta da finestre non isolate, così come il tetto, efficacemente coibentato ed a struttura lignea (questo materiale è un pessimo conduttore di calore).
Se i vari apporti giungono al nostro corpo con differenze di temperatura minime, la sensazione di benessere sarà di conseguenza alta, innescando la sensazione di benessere.
Al contrario, in presenza di superfici radianti molto fredde o troppo calde (una stufa a legna ad alta temperatura in un edificio disperdente), il nostro sistema di termoregolazione interna andrà letteralmente “in tilt”.
Il comfort termico è pertanto uno degli aspetti più interessanti (e meno conosciuti) delle case prefabbricate.

Cool Spaces! is a dynamic 13-part series that brings alive some of the most provocative and bold architecture of the 21st century. Hosted by architect Stephen Chung, each episodes features public spaces from around the world, designed by architects pushing the boundary of contemporary architecture, materials and process.
